About

As an art historian, appraiser, and fine art advisor, Madison Folks empowers collectors and institutions to understand their Japanese woodblock print collections in terms of valuation and quality, as well as historical and cultural context. Driven by her passion for the art form, Madison offers a range of services designed to ease access, deepen understanding, and promote the celebration of Japanese woodblock prints.Madison earned her BA in Art History with a minor in East Asian Studies from Oberlin College and graduated with dual Master's degrees in Art History and Information Science from the University of North Carolina-Chapel Hill. She formerly served as gallery director for New York-based Ronin Gallery, one of the largest collections of Japanese Woodblock Prints for sale in the United States. In this role, she was in charge of gallery scholarship, including research and writing of the gallery’s exhibition and educational content, print cataloging, and collection organization and management. With more than 10 years experience in both academic and commercial settings, she approaches each print with academic rigor, market perspective, keen connoisseurship, and rich historical context. She is Uniform Standards of Professional Appraisal Practice (USPAP) compliant through January 2027.
