Ab-Anbar Gallery Ab-Anbar is a contemporary art gallery where art and history are entangled and reconfigured. The artists we represent defy fixed categories, working across territories—both physical and conceptual—to reveal the tensions and transformations of our time. Founded in 2014 in Tehran, Ab-Anbar derives its name from the Persian word for "water reservoir" (āb meaning water, anbar meaning repository). Like its architectural namesake, the gallery functions as a space of fluidity and resilience, shaping mutable artistic narratives while nurturing dialogue and growth. Over the years, Ab-Anbar has expanded beyond exhibitions to collaborate with cultural practitioners, nonprofits, independent publishers, and performers, cultivating a dynamic, interdisciplinary program. In 2020, the gallery launched its program in London, culminating in the opening of its space in Fitzrovia in September 2023. Now anchored in London’s cultural landscape, Ab-Anbar deepens its commitment to amplifying underrepresented perspectives, forging connections between artists, institutions, and audiences to reimagine the margins as sites of generative discourse.
