About — BRINK 0 BRINK is a gallery in West London founded by the architectural practice Richard Parr Associates ( RPA ). Founder Richard Parr personally curates the programme of exhibitions with the help of Frederick Heffer and the team at RPA. This direct connection to architectural practise is important, and sets BRINK apart. A gallery in its own right, we see BRINK as a kind of shopfront and interface to the work we do at RPA. Architecture informs the way we select and interpret the work we show, and vice versa. Each exhibition will, to varying degrees, explore the space between our work and other forms of art practise. Both BRINK and RPA are housed in The People’s Hall in W11. The gallery commands the street corner, our doors standing just beneath the mosaic that announces its name. Built in 1901 as a Temperance Hall (an institution promoting abstinence from alcohol), the building has served many varied, and often contradictory purposes since. In the 1970s it was home to The Republic of Frestonia, an artists commune and short-lived attempt to create an independent nation in West London. It was also where The Clash recorded ‘Rock the Casbah.’ This incongruity between temperance and tumult is reflected in the location of BRINK which stands on the boundary between the crescents of Notting Hill and ex-industrial estates of Notting Dale and Westfield. We’re fond of this in-betweenness, and like the idea that we could topple into either territory. Do come and visit.…
