Sakhile&Me was founded in 2018 in Frankfurt/Main (Germany) by Sakhile Matlhare and Daniel Hagemeier. The gallery represented an international roster of contemporary artists working across disciplines. A key focus was to champion artists of color through curated solo exhibitions and collaborative presentations while drawing attention to contextual specificity in and through art – in content, medium and genre – in an effort to highlight diverse perspectives of historic, cultural and social realities. Sakhile holds a Ph.D. in Sociology from Northwestern University, writing her dissertation on Contemporary African Artists as Producers and Secondary Arbiters in the Gatekeeping Process and is a member of the Art Cologne Selection Committee. Daniel holds a Master’s degree in Digital Communications from the University of Sydney. Several artists had their first solo exhibition in Germany with the gallery (Nnenna Okore in 2018; Kevin Demery and Ghizlane Sahli in 2019; Owanto in 2020; William Tagne Njepe, Raelis Vasquez and Adelaide Damoah in 2021; Mbali Dhlamini and Sekai Machache in 2022; Mario Joyce in 2023).…
