Hogg was a Scottish-born merchant, land speculator, and civic leader who played an important role in colonial and early statehood North Carolina. Born in East Lothian, Scotland, he emigrated to North Carolina in 1774, first landing in Wilmington before moving inland to Cross Creek (now Fayetteville) and later settling in Hillsborough. Visitors can experience the authentically restored front parlor rooms, showcasing Scottish art and artists in tribute to the family who lived in the home for nearly a century. Our Commitment Saltire Gallerie is dedicated to the research and restoration of artworks in our collection. Our holdings emphasize the natural beauty of Scotland, particularly plein air works from the 18th to early 20th centuries, occasionally acquiring Dutch, British, French, and Italian paintings. We source works internationally, focusing on technical virtuosity, beauty, and artists represented in museums and respected galleries. As a small gallery in a historic town, we are able to offer clients exceptional value compared to larger New York and London storefront galleries.…
