Polish artist Aneta Grzeszykowska is presenting two photo series in New York: "Mama" (2018), featuring a life-like doll of herself played with by her young daughter, and "Daughter" (2025), for which she wears a mask of her 14-year-old self and poses with family members. "Mama" is included in the "New Humans" exhibition at the New Museum and previously appeared in the 2022 Venice Biennale's "Milk of Dreams." "Daughter" is on view at Lyles & King gallery on the Lower East Side through May 9, and also in the group show "Adolescence" at the Zachęta National Gallery of Art in Warsaw. The series extend Grzeszykowska's long-standing practice of manipulating family photographs, which began with her 2005 series "Album," where she removed herself from old family pictures.
LACMA's new David Geffen Galleries, designed by Pritzker Prize-winning architect Peter Zumthor, are now open to the public. The building features a single-floor, sculptural form made of architectural concrete and glass, with natural light and transparency that encourages visitors to explore 6,000 years of art and culture. In collaboration with the American Institute of Architects Los Angeles, LACMA is hosting a series of free workshops on May 15-17, including guided walks, drawing sessions, and landscape tours, to help visitors engage with the building's architecture and design.
Kengo Kuma & Associates has unveiled the design for its first museum in the United States, a wood-clad pavilion complex at the Brandywine Conservancy & Museum of Art in Pennsylvania. The 3,716-square-meter structure, part of a major expansion, will transform the 6-hectare campus into a 131.52-hectare public preserve and garden designed with Field Operations. Construction is planned to begin in spring 2027, with an opening in fall 2029, adding 80% more exhibition space and integrating art, ecology, and conservation.
Japanese Superflat artist Mr. has opened 'We’ll Meet Again', his first major museum solo exhibition in Japan in over a decade, at the Fukuoka Asian Art Museum. Running through June 21, 2026, the show features over 80 works including paintings, sculptures, installations, and video pieces, exploring themes of nostalgia, video games, manga, and the yanki subculture. Highlights include an immersive bedroom installation filled with beer cans and manga, a screening of his 2008 film 'Nobody Dies', and a new motorcycle work called 'itasha'.
Club Rhubarb, a nomadic art project founded by artist-turned-curator Tony Cox, has opened its third location in a two-floor house across from the New Museum in New York. The current exhibition, 'I am so pretty,' features the mixed-media works of artist Brock Enright, including paintings built with wood, acrylic, foam, and found objects, as well as video works and an installation of altered electronic guitars. The show also includes a bathroom installation called 'BBC Brocks Bijou Cinema,' screening Enright's short films from the 2000s that document his former business of staging fake kidnappings for clients.
The New Museum in New York has opened "New Humans: Memories of the Future," an exhibition curated by Chief Curator Massimiliano Gioni that explores a century of art predicting the fusion of humans and machines. The show features works by artists including Anicka Yi, Francis Picabia, Constantin Brancusi, and Marcel Duchamp, alongside robots and technological artifacts that blur the boundaries between bodies and technology. The exhibition is housed within OMA's newly expanded museum space on the Bowery.
