Art Basel Qatar Announces Artistic Director and Theme for 2027 Edition

Art Basel Qatar has appointed Iraqi curator Wassan Al-Khudhairi as artistic director for its second edition, scheduled for January 28–30, 2027, in Doha. The fair will be themed “between / بين,” exploring states of betweenness and fluid cultural encounters, and will feature a scaled-up Special Projects sector with large-scale, site-specific works, alongside solo gallery presentations. Al-Khudhairi, a specialist in modern and contemporary Arab art, previously served as founding director of Mathaf: Arab Museum of Modern Art in Doha and held curatorial roles at the Contemporary Art Museum St. Louis.

MINISO Gallery Launches in Shanghai

MINISO, the global lifestyle retailer, has launched its first-ever MINISO Gallery at Shanghai’s Bund City Hall Plaza, a historic landmark. The gallery opens with a solo exhibition titled *Life from the Corner of My Room* featuring RYOL, a contemporary Indonesian artist who is MINISO’s first global exclusive artist. The exhibition runs from 17 May to 31 August and includes recent paintings, sculptures, and installations that trace RYOL’s artistic evolution from intimate, room-based works to explorations of childhood innocence and real-world experience.

Cuzco Time Capsule

Soho Photo Gallery in New York is presenting "Cuzco Time Capsule," an exhibition of 18 black-and-white photographs by Michael Page Miller, taken in 1972 during his travels in highland Peru. The images capture laborers, craftsmen, market vendors, and Quechua people in and around Cuzco, shot with a 35mm Nikkormat and Tri-X film. The show runs from May 20 to June 14, 2026, with each print priced at $600.
