'Artistic Gems from the Past' exhibit coming to Friedman Art Gallery

Penn State Wilkes-Barre's Friedman Art Gallery will open a new exhibit titled "Artistic Gems from the Past" on May 1, featuring artwork by current and former students, including pieces created over 25 years ago. The exhibit includes works from two courses taught by Jonathan Pineno—Art History 112 and Integrative Arts 001—where students created art using recycled materials and techniques inspired by Bob Ross. Unattributed works from the 1990s are also on display, and the gallery is asking the public to help identify the original student artists.

Feral Botanica | Hidenori Ishii

The HUB-Robeson Galleries at Penn State University will present “Feral Botanica,” an exhibition by visual artist Hidenori Ishii, from June 5 to October 31, 2026. The show features paintings, prints, and installations from Ishii’s “OTF-SL” series, including a diamond-shaped plexiglass window with gold tagging referencing a guerrilla art project in New York City since 2020. The installation explores the tension between civilization and nature, using reflective surfaces and green construction barricades to create a speculative botanical environment that blurs interior and exterior spaces.

Leonhard Center and Bellefonte Art Museum seek submissions for art exhibition

The Leonhard Center for the Enhancement of Engineering Education at Penn State is partnering with the Bellefonte Art Museum for Centre County (BAM) to organize an exhibition titled “Making Connections: Art, Engineering and Community.” Students, faculty, and staff are invited to submit original works exploring the intersection of art and engineering. Submissions from the College of Engineering will also be entered into the second annual Leonhard Center Art–Engineering Competition. The exhibition will be curated by Sarah Zappe, Joseph Cusumano, and Benjamin Fehl, who previously curated a related show at the Palmer Museum of Art. Applications are open through October 15, 2026, with the exhibition running from January 1 to February 28, 2027.
