Young Cham artist revives fading Muslim traditions through first solo exhibition

Young Cham artist Kaeu Sreypeou has opened her first solo exhibition, titled "Remembering," at SNA Arts Management in Phnom Penh, running from May 21 to August 8. The show features 18 acrylic paintings that depict traditional Cham Muslim ceremonies, such as the Mawlid Festival and the Tolak bala cleansing ritual, which are now practiced by only a few communities in Cambodia. Sreypeou, a 2023 graduate of the Royal University of Fine Arts, draws on her own memories and participation in these rituals to document and preserve Cham cultural identity.

New İstanbul art exhibition questions the meaning of animal shelters

The exhibition "Barı-n/m-ak" has opened at Müze Gazhane in Istanbul, curated by Hicran Aksöz as a social responsibility project that merges contemporary art with animal rights advocacy. Featuring works by 27 Turkish contemporary artists, the show uses a typographic play on the title to question the concepts of shelter and sheltering, prompting reflection on cohabitation in the city, the right to shelter, and interspecies solidarity. Ukraine war stories captured in powerful art exhibition

Fine artist Louise Pasterfield will open her exhibition 'Colour and Courage' at St Stephen’s Church in Saltash, Cornwall, on May 28. The show features 18 watercolour portraits from her ongoing Ukraine series, which began after Russia’s 2022 invasion and now totals 295 portraits of civilians, soldiers, and families. Among the works is a tribute to Christopher Parry, a Cornish volunteer killed in Ukraine in 2023, painted from a photograph given by his parents. The exhibition also includes botanical paintings inspired by Tresco Abbey Gardens.
