Alexander James Dissects Painting’s Most Enduring Shape in Hong Kong Exhibition

British artist Alexander James presents *Dissecting the Square*, a new exhibition at Phillips Gallery in Hong Kong, running until 31 May 2026. The show features a series of paintings, sculptures, and installations that explore the square as a geometric form, inspired by a moment when sunlight dissected an empty canvas in his studio. James divides canvases into quadrants, creating works that balance order and disruption. The exhibition also includes Josef Albers’ *Homage to the Square: In Time* (1967) and a sculpture by Sean Scully, placing James’s practice in dialogue with art historical precedents.

JR transforms the Pont-Neuf into an immense immersive cave

JR métamorphose le Pont-Neuf en immense caverne immersive

French artist JR has transformed the Pont-Neuf in Paris into a massive immersive cave installation titled "La Caverne du Pont-Neuf," unveiled in May 2026. The work pays homage to Christo and Jeanne-Claude's 1985 wrapping of the same bridge, using an inflatable double-wall structure covered with printed fabric to simulate rock formations and a prehistoric cave. The 120-meter-long installation is free and open to the public day and night, featuring augmented reality experiences via mobile devices and VR glasses, with a soundscape by a former Daft Punk member. The project, budgeted at €10.9 million funded by private sources, marks the first time JR has invited the public inside one of his works.

“We are passing the Pillars of Hercules”. The artist Luca Vitone sends us the logbook of his sailing voyage to Saint Helena

“Stiamo superando le Colonne d’Ercole”. L’artista Luca Vitone ci manda il diario di bordo del suo viaggio a vela verso Sant’Elena

Italian artist Luca Vitone has embarked on a sailing voyage from the port of La Línea, near Gibraltar, toward the island of Saint Helena, as part of his project "Pro Tempore." After six years of preparation, Vitone and his crew—including commander Pier Bruno Morelli, sound engineer Alessandro Daniele, navigator Pietro Bertozzi, cinematographer Elvio Manuzzi, and writer Carlo Antonelli—set sail on the cutter Adriatica. The journey is supported by the Italian Council program, promoted by the Ministry of Culture's Direzione Generale Creatività Contemporanea, and by the Fondazione Oelle in Catania, led by president Ornella Laneri.

Play ‘Liminal Bingo,’ Pat Perry’s Participatory Photo Treasure Hunt

Detroit-based artist Pat Perry has launched "Liminal Bingo," a participatory photo treasure hunt open to anyone with an internet connection. Participants are encouraged to go outside, gather friends, and photograph a series of illustrated prompts—such as capturing a handshake with a stranger while both wear sunglasses—using a camera or phone. When five prompts are completed in a row, players have a bingo and submit their images via Instagram or email. Photos submitted by August will be considered for a fall exhibition at Hashimoto Contemporary in New York and a potential book.

Feral Botanica | Hidenori Ishii

The HUB-Robeson Galleries at Penn State University will present “Feral Botanica,” an exhibition by visual artist Hidenori Ishii, from June 5 to October 31, 2026. The show features paintings, prints, and installations from Ishii’s “OTF-SL” series, including a diamond-shaped plexiglass window with gold tagging referencing a guerrilla art project in New York City since 2020. The installation explores the tension between civilization and nature, using reflective surfaces and green construction barricades to create a speculative botanical environment that blurs interior and exterior spaces.
