To mark the milestone, the shop is offering a limited-time discount on original woodcut prints, and Lueth continues to share behind-the-scenes images on Flickr and Instagram.

Plattsburgh art exhibition spotlights intersection of art and mental health

An ongoing exhibition in downtown Plattsburgh, titled “Holding Space: A Community Exhibition on Art and Mental Health,” is on display at the Strand Center for the Arts through May 30 for Mental Health Awareness Month. The show, a collaboration between the Strand and Behavioral Health Services North (BHSN), features artwork from individuals in BHSN’s recovery programs, including pieces by Barb Guay, who runs a recovery program and creative expression therapy group at BHSN. Guay’s watercolor self-care plan, with panels like “Pink Power Suit Barbara” and “Fruit Bat Barbara,” explores her own recovery from opioid and cocaine use since 2015, as well as her chronic illness and artistic identity.

The event, which also serves as a fundraiser, features a theme of 'What is Beauty? Finding Joy in the world around us' and accepts both flat-art and 3D works. Artists may sell their pieces with a 30% commission going to Westman YFC, and donors can receive a tax receipt for the remaining 70% if donated to the art program. Dawn Redlin, Creative Journeys Program Director, oversees three therapeutic art programs—Create (Tuesday nights), a Monday afternoon directed art group, and one-on-one therapeutic art coaching—that serve up to 50 young people annually, many facing addiction, mental health, or homelessness issues.
