43rd Ellarsie Open Announces Juror Adam Welch: Accepting Submissions Until May 6th

The Trenton City Museum has launched the call for entries for the 43rd Ellarslie Open, appointing Adam Welch as the juror for the 2026 edition. Welch, the Executive Director of the Arts Council of Princeton and a former lecturer at Princeton University, will oversee the selection process for the prestigious regional showcase. Artists from the New Jersey and Pennsylvania areas are invited to submit digital entries through May 6, with the final exhibition scheduled to open on June 6 at the historic Ellarslie Mansion.

Future home of the Vancouver Art Gallery turned back into parking lot

Crews have begun filling in the excavation work at the future home of the Vancouver Art Gallery at West Georgia and Cambie, turning the site into a parking lot operated by Easy Park. The project, originally set to open in 2028, has been scaled back after costs rose from $400 million to $600 million, and $60 million had already been spent on planning and pre-construction. The gallery has appointed new architects—Chipewyan architect Alfred Waugh of Formline Architecture and Bruce Kuwabara of Toronto-based KPMB—to lead a redesigned, smaller-scale project, effectively starting from scratch.

’Zodiac Crossroads’ comes to Kent-Harrison art gallery

The Ranger Station Art Gallery in Harrison Hot Springs has launched "Zodiac Crossroads," a solo exhibition by artist Johnny Tai. The collection features tactile 2-D aluminum etchings that blend Chinese and Western astrological symbols, specifically designed to be experienced through touch. Tai, who is blind and partially deaf, created the works to bridge the gap between traditional visual art and sensory accessibility.

Studio B Boyertown Welcomes New Gallery Director, Announces New Exhibit

Studio B Boyertown has appointed Bob Hakun as its new gallery director. Hakun, an assemblage artist who creates works from found objects, previously worked as a computer graphic designer and prepress manager after his career designing Halloween masks and costumes moved overseas. He is a 1976 graduate of Kutztown University with a BFA in painting. The gallery is also presenting the exhibition “Form & Fiber: 3-Dimensional Expression in Art,” featuring 3-D and fiber works by Hakun and fifteen other artists, running through June 21.

The event, part of the "Bringing Joy to the Grassroots" initiative, featured a calligraphy and painting exchange where artists from the city and district levels created works alongside teachers and students, culminating in a collaborative Chinese ink painting titled "Spring Garden." The program also included the donation of 100 art books to the school and the appointment of a prominent artist as an external art education counselor.
