Two New Exhibitions Open May 1 at Smith House Galleries

The Arts Council of the Valley is launching two concurrent solo exhibitions at the Smith House Galleries in Harrisonburg, Virginia. 'Young Warriors' by Sukenya Best features vibrant portrait paintings that explore themes of resilience and nature, while 'Water’s Journey' by Anna Freeman showcases ceramic and 2D works focused on the intertidal boundaries between land and water. The opening event on May 1 includes artist talks and a live portrait-drawing pop-up by artist Will Stroud.

The 12th annual Art in the Village, organized by the North Shore Art League, took place June 21-22 in Hubbard Woods Park, featuring a juried exhibition of artists from across the U.S. The event included live portrait painting by faculty member Lisa DePinto, a silent auction, and a raffle with donations from local businesses. Professional artists Bill Marvin and Corey Postiglione served as judges, awarding first place to Jenny Henley of Satsuma, Florida. Separately, the Winnetka Historical Society raised $132,000 at its annual gala honoring the late Jim Hansen, and Jeff Rosen was named assistant principal at The Joseph Sears School.

Mike Fredrickson’s New Album and Paintings

Mike Fredrickson, a Riverwest-based painter and musician, has released a new album titled *Sunken Treasure* and is showcasing his paintings at two Milwaukee venues. The album, recorded in Chicago with collaborators including drummer Dave Braun and guitarist Scott Ligon, features 13 songs blending catchy grooves with introspective lyrics. His vibrant cityscape and portrait paintings are on display at The Daily Bird and Beans and Barley through mid-May.
