Fresh Arts Announced Space Taking Artist Residency Open Call

Fresh Arts has announced an open call for its Space Taking Artist Residency (STAR) program, now in its sixth year. The program offers selected residents nine weeks of mentor-guided professional development followed by eight weeks of access to a 2,500-square-foot gallery space at Winter Street Studios in Houston's Sixth Ward. Residents receive a $3,600 honorarium and additional stipends, and are expected to activate the space through exhibitions, performances, or community programs. The deadline to apply is December 5, 2025.

Limerick City Gallery of Art (LCGA) has announced an open call for its annual Test Space Residency programme for 2026, now in its sixth year. The residency offers two awards: one for early-career art practitioners and one for those at a more advanced stage. Selected artists will receive an 8-week studio residency with a €5,000 stipend, curatorial support, promotion, and the opportunity to engage with LCGA's audiences and community. The programme was established in 2020 in response to the Arts Council's EDI Policy and prioritizes projects involving public engagement, workshops, talks, or community inclusion events. Applications are open to writers, filmmakers, dancers, performers, academics, and visual artists across all disciplines.

Artist Hao Wang inspired by NOTL landscapes at Vineridge Academy exhibition

Visiting artist Hao Wang presented paintings and sculptures at Vineridge Academy in Virgil, Ontario, on September 20, showcasing work created during a residency inspired by the landscapes of Niagara-on-the-Lake. The exhibition included large canvases of local scenery and abstract scenes, as well as charred wood sculptures made with a chainsaw. Wang, who is from China and does not speak English, communicated through student translator Cyrus Au-Yeung, expressing how the town's atmosphere and colors influenced his art. The residency program, launched last year by principal Michael Miao, houses international artists on campus and retains some works for the school's collection.

‘Lakay’ exhibit marks debut of Brooklyn’s first BIPOC-owned artist co-working studio

Third City Art Studio Opening In Austin, 1st In Project To Transform North Avenue Into Arts District

Third City Studio, an art gallery, studio, classroom, and event space, will open in October 2025 at 5538 W. North Avenue in Austin, Chicago, as the first phase of the North Austin Arts District. Next door, Third City Cafe is set to open in early 2026. The projects are spearheaded by Jon Womack of Third City Properties, in partnership with community leaders including Vanessa Stokes of Outwest Gallery & Cafe. The studio will highlight West Side artists, offer artists-in-residency programs, and partner with after-school programs. Executive director Sid Zalani is organizing the inaugural exhibition, accepting submissions through September 15.

Artist in Residency recipient exhibits “Americana” at ArtWRKD

Bucks County-based multimedia artist Greta Karr, the inaugural recipient of ArtWRKD's Summer Artist in Residency program, presents a solo exhibition titled "Americana" at ArtWRKD in Newtown, Pennsylvania, from August 1-31. ‘Creating their own ecosystem’: Arts Council gives backing to collaboration between artists in rural Gloucestershire

Artist Alice Sheppard Fidler, a founding member of Studio Voltaire, has created The Hide, an artist retreat and residency in Nailsworth, Gloucestershire, UK. In 2022, she launched The Hide Installation and Sculpture Showcase (THISS), an annual sculpture exhibition in her garden, which this year featured ten artists responding to themes of adaptable matter and environmental permanence. For the first time in 2024, Sheppard Fidler secured Arts Council funding for THISS, enabling artist fees and workshops with youth charities, and the event now attracts around 400 visitors from across the UK.
