uruguays only art fair wagers that it can create a new regional market force

Uruguay's only art fair, Este Arte, is preparing for its 12th edition from January 4-7 at the Vik Pavilion in José Ignacio. Founded by curator Laura Bardier, the fair features just 14 galleries, including returnees like Galería del Paseo and Xippas Galleries, and newcomers such as Almeida & Dale and Galerie Jocelyn Wolff. Despite its small scale, with works priced from $500 to $400,000 (most under $20,000), the fair has intentionally reduced its exhibitor list since its inaugural edition, focusing on quality over quantity.

New chapter for Artbo: Colombia’s art market finds resilience amidst flux

The 21st edition of Artbo, Colombia's premier art fair, opened in Bogotá with 46 galleries, down from its peak a decade ago. The fair is framed by the inaugural Bogotá Biennial, which adds international draw, and a leadership change: Jaime A. Martínez, an art historian and former gallerist, takes over from María Paz Gaviria. Early sales include works by Tania Candiani, Marcelo Moscheta, and Ximena Garrido-Lecca, with galleries reporting cautious but engaged Colombian collectors.

EFG LATIN AMERICA ART AWARD PRESENTA AL ARTISTA NOMINADO EN SP ARTE 2026

The EFG Latin America Art Award, in partnership with ArtNexus, has named Brazilian artist Cristiano Lenhardt as its nominee from SP-Arte 2026. Lenhardt, represented by Fortes D'Aloia & Gabriel, was selected for his work *Lieoe* (2025), a mixed-media piece combining ceramic, embroidery, and cotton fabric dyed by floodwaters from the Guaíba River. The work responds to the environmental tragedy of the May 2024 floods in Rio Grande do Sul, transforming trauma into a tactile, intuitive object. The nomination was made with input from Fernando Oliva, curator of MASP, and Celia Sredni de Birbragher, director of ArtNexus.
