Fatima Hellberg, the newly appointed director of Vienna's mumok (Museum Moderner Kunst Stiftung Ludwig), has outlined her inaugural exhibition program and curatorial philosophy. Her first season, launching in June, will feature Kate Millett's newly acquired 1972 installation 'Terminal Piece,' an installation by scenographer Anna Viebrock, and a project by artist Tolia Astakhishvili.
Lindsay Jarvis, a London-born dealer who previously worked at Sadie Coles and greengrassi in the UK and spent a decade in New York as an art adviser and auction specialist, has opened a new 2,000-square-foot gallery on the second floor of 96 Bowery in Manhattan. The inaugural exhibition, titled "Ghost," organized with Max Werner, opens Wednesday and runs through October 4, featuring contemporary artists like Francesca Mollett and Daniel Licht alongside 20th-century figures such as Lois Dodd, Richard Mayhew, Joan Snyder, Beverly Buchanan, Peter Saul, and Janet Sobel. Jarvis, known for spotting overlooked value in 20th-century artists, is transitioning from advising collectors to running his own gallery program.
Alison Byrne, who began as an intern at the Virginia Museum of Contemporary Art (MOCA) in 2000, has been named the museum's executive director as of late September 2024. Over 25 years, she rose through roles including curator of education and deputy director, and was named Museum Art Educator of the Year by the Virginia Art Education Association in 2020. Byrne will lead the museum's relocation in 2026 to a new 35,000-square-foot facility at Virginia Wesleyan University, featuring a 21% increase in gallery space. The inaugural exhibition will showcase works by contemporary artist Nina Chanel Abney.
