Marin resident returns to art after retiring from police department

Donna Loftus, a Marin County resident, retired from a 33-year career with the San Francisco Police Department in 2012 and has since returned to her lifelong passion for art. She took classes at the College of Marin, joined the Marin Society of Artists and the art group Marin 6, and has exhibited her work at venues including Fred's retail store in Mill Valley, Locati Mediterranean restaurant, and Coit Tower in San Francisco. Currently, she is the guest artist in the exhibition "Embracing Art" at the Arts Guild of Sonoma, running through June 1. Loftus, who is pursuing a fine arts degree, paints landscapes, still lifes, and abstracts inspired by nature and her travels.

TWiST Art Gallery, Art Space & Artist Studios has opened in the Bayshore Arts District of Naples, Florida, as a new non-profit creative hub. The grand opening was funded primarily by two sold-out Embellished Wearable Arts Fashion Shows in 2024 and 2025, which raised over $100,000 for affordable art classes and studios. Juvenile Triceratops to hit Phillips’ auction blocks this November

Phillips auction house will debut a new category called "Out of This World" within its Modern & Contemporary Art Evening Sale on November 18 in New York, headlined by "Cera," a 66-million-year-old juvenile Triceratops skeleton. The specimen, excavated in 2016 from South Dakota's Hell Creek Formation, is the first full juvenile Triceratops ever discovered and the first Triceratops of any kind to appear at a U.S. auction in over a decade, with an estimate of up to $3.5 million. One of New York City’s oldest houses to open as its neighbourhood’s first museum

The Hendrick I. Lott House, one of New York City’s oldest surviving structures, is set to become the first museum in Brooklyn’s Marine Park neighborhood. Built in 1720 as a Dutch Colonial farmhouse and expanded in 1800, the house remained in the Lott family until 1989. After the city purchased it in 2002 and completed exterior renovations in 2013, plans are now underway to open its interior to the public for the first time, preserving its unique wallpaper and agricultural history.
