Father-and-son artists William and Hugh Jennings have closed the Hitching Post Gallery in Buffalo, Wyoming, after 30 years of operation. The gallery, which opened in November 1993 on Main Street, was a longstanding fixture in the community, showcasing works from many area artists alongside gifts, books, and tobacco products. William stepped away about seven years ago, and Hugh recently decided to retire, locking the doors for the last time at the beginning of May. Hugh expressed no regrets, saying he wanted to focus more on his own art.
The Detroit Institute of Arts (DIA) is closing its major exhibition, "Anishinaabe Art: Honoring Tradition, Inspiring Innovation," this weekend. The show, which opened in October, is the museum's first significant survey of Anishinaabe art in three decades, featuring over 80 works from the 19th century to the present.
The Grand Egyptian Museum (GEM) will hold its official opening ceremony on November 1, more than 30 years after its initial proposal. The centerpiece of the inauguration is the Tutankhamun Gallery, featuring the famous gold funerary mask under bulletproof glass and a full-scale reproduction of the king's tomb. Designed by German studio Atelier Brückner, the gallery offers two narrative paths: one tracing Tutankhamun's life and reign, the other following Howard Carter's 1922 discovery. The Detroit Institute of Arts (DIA) announced its first major Native American exhibition in 30 years, titled "The Contemporary Anishinaabe Art: A Continuation," opening September 28, 2025. The show will feature 60 U.S.-based Anishinaabe artists and include jewelry, basketry, painting, pottery, and woodworking, with gallery text in Anishnaabemowin. The exhibition was curated with an advisory council of Ojibwe, Ottawa, and Potawatomi artists.
Local artist Mirabela Varga's exhibition 'Coherence' is on display at Byron Spaces Gallery in the Byron Community Centre, featuring bright, textured artworks inspired by the landscapes and flowers of the Northern Rivers region. The Great Neck Library will host a summer sculpture exhibition titled "Swim or Fly" featuring works by local artist Dr. Suzanne Posner from May 1 through July 31 at the Main Library. The sculptures will be displayed atop bookshelves in the Reference Study Area, with a public reception on June 6. Posner, a direct carver with 30 years of experience working in stone, transitioned to full-time artistry after retiring from dentistry following a Parkinson's Disease diagnosis.
A new mural in Black Mountain, North Carolina, is drawing crowds and boosting local business ahead of the grand opening of Cherry Street Gallery. The mural, designed by Atlanta-based designer Ben Rupp and adapted and painted by artist Jonathan Bidwell, was commissioned by the gallery and completed in late July 2025. Local residents and tourists have been stopping to take photos, with the artwork generating significant foot traffic and online visibility for nearby shops like the bookstore Sassafras.
The Regional Historical Museum – Sofia is opening an exhibition titled "Chronicles from the Studio. 130 years of Vasil Zahariev – artist, teacher, researcher" on July 17, 2025, running through November 30, 2025. The show marks the 130th anniversary of the birth of Bulgarian graphic artist Vasil Zahariev, featuring original works, personal belongings, documents, and photographs from his archive. Zahariev was also a lecturer and rector at the Academy of Arts, and a researcher of Bulgarian Renaissance art.
Sundog Gallery, a newly opened art space in downtown Mancos, will host an exhibition starting September 5 showcasing five decades of work by Cortez-born painter Stanton Englehart (1931–2009). The show includes rare and never-before-seen pieces, along with personal notes and reflections on his creative process. Englehart, known for paintings of the American Southwest, earned a master's degree from the University of Colorado and taught for 30 years at Fort Lewis College before retiring to paint full-time.
Protea Hotel in Botswana is hosting an art exhibition on Saturday featuring three local fine artists: Wilson Ngoni, Prince Tom, and Ronald Kegomoditswe (also known as Ron de Artist). Kegomoditswe, speaking in an interview, described the exhibition as a collaborative effort to increase public exposure for their work. He highlighted Ngoni's 30 years of experience and his own long-standing collaboration with Tom, noting the importance of such events for community support and awareness. East Los Angeles College’s Vincent Price Art Museum is hosting an exhibition through August that spans three decades of Latina lesbian activism in Los Angeles, from the 1980s to the late 2000s. The show features photos, posters, letters, and ephemera highlighting the fight against anti-gay hate crimes, alongside struggles for LGBTQ+ healthcare, affordable housing, fair wages for janitors, and immigrants’ rights. Co-curated by Jocelyne Sanchez and Vanessa Esperanza Quintero, the exhibition is a collaboration with UCLA’s Latina Futures 2050 Lab and pays tribute to activists including the late archivist Yolanda Retter Vargas.

Kellie Miller Art (KMA) gallery has opened a new location in Brighton's Church Street, taking over the former Dockerills hardware store. Artist and pottery teacher Fiona Sandover is holding an exhibition titled "Here, Now" in the Creative Space at Brightwells Yard in Farnham, running from May 13 to 29. The show features her paintings, sculpture, and ceramic homeware, created over nearly 30 years in her studio near Woodlarks. Sandover has worked at Creative Response in Farnham for nearly 25 years.
Dovecote Street Arts in Amble, Northumberland, is launching a new exhibition titled 'Amble, Northumberland, England' featuring nearly 70 works by 47 local artists selected through an open call. The show includes sculptor-painter duo Geoffrey and Sarah Bradford and award-winning painter Katherine Rousselange, and is supported by a £400 grant from the Alnmouth Arts Festival. Museo La Neomudéjar in Madrid is presenting a major exhibition titled '30 Years of Irreverence and Vision in the Fuentes Angarita Collection.' The show features over 130 works from the collection of Venezuelan artist and collector Andreína Fuentes Angarita, curated by Néstor Prieto and Omar Castañeda. It is structured as a living archive, mapping three decades of Latin American political art through four thematic stations: the collective self, diaspora, identity and gender, and the memory of the body.
