Laura Lit, an Austin-based artist, has opened her first solo museum exhibition, "Impossible Beings," at Laguna Gloria. The show features four abstract sculptures that are the outdoor debut of The Contemporary's HOST series, running from April 23, 2025, through January 17, 2027. Lit, who began her artistic reinvention after becoming a mother in 2020, creates dream-like figures inspired by meditation, using industrial materials like expanded polystyrene and Pal Tiya. The exhibition also includes a companion show at The Jones Center opening in September.
Fei Tian College in Middletown, New York, opened its 2026 Fine Arts Exhibition on May 11, showcasing oil paintings and graphic design works by undergraduate and graduate students. The week-long show serves as the MFA in Oil Painting graduation showcase, featuring works that blend traditional techniques with personal themes such as innocence, spirituality, courage, compassion, and humanity. The Wellington County Museum and Archives in Ontario will host the Emerging Insights exhibition, a juried show featuring visual arts students from the Upper Grand District School Board. The exhibition featured intricately crocheted animals, architectural structures, and photographs, representing the culmination of their high school visual arts careers. Students like Justin Canelo incorporated personal heritage and architectural interests, while Peyton Remmer explored self-portraiture and photography, supported by teachers Christine Holloway and Ian Merritt.
The Orange Coast College Doyle Arts Pavilion hosted the annual Mass Appeal exhibit on May 7, 2026, featuring student artwork including paintings, drawings, photographs, and sculptures. Northland Pioneer College (NPC) celebrated the 40th annual High School Juried Art Show, awarding top honors to three student artists. Katrina Joe, a senior at Ganado High School, won Best of Show in painting for her work "Cupcakes." Ayla Curley, a senior at Winslow High School, took Best of Show in 3D art for "Rat," and Darla Nez, a senior at Chinle High School, won Best of Show in drawing for "Colorful Perspective." The exhibition was juried by NPC faculty members Magda Gluszek and Peterson Yazzie, and each winner received an art tuition scholarship to NPC for the 2026-27 academic year.
Nine students received awards at Jamestown Community College’s Juried Student Art exhibition, which opened recently in the Weeks Gallery on the Jamestown Campus. Winners included Tala Abuhmeidan (Outstanding Achievement in Painting), Alyson Danielson (President’s Award), Nicole Ford (Excellence in Sculpture), Rachel LeRoy (Distinguished Body of Work), Jack Lingenfelter (Innovation in New Media), Jessica Olson (Juror’s Award for Excellence), Zoe Pike (Excellence in Ceramics), Olivia Reynolds (Excellence in Drawing Practices), and Courtney Runge (Distinguished Work in Photography). The exhibition features works from students at JCC’s Jamestown and Cattaraugus County campuses across media including painting, drawing, prints, photography, sculpture, ceramics, and digital media. Jurors included JCC Art faculty Madison LaVallee, Nathan Jeffery, Mark Kirsch, Brenna Turner, and Tom Makovitch.
