Sruli Recht's "LAIR" Hacks the Laws of Nature in Shenzhen

Sruli Recht's exhibition "LAIR" has opened at the SWCAC museum in Shenzhen, featuring 68 sculptures across 11 installations that took 15 years to create. The works employ unconventional materials such as lava casting, lightning-formed glass, and bee-skin fur, presented as ceremonial artifacts. The immersive experience includes custom musical architecture by Valgeir Sigurðsson, whose score changes with each room, and 14 fragrances developed by perfumer Alex Lee and IFF, made from strange ingredients to set the mood. Visitors receive a small scent object upon leaving.

Students bridge generational divides in new exhibition

Miami University students explore intergenerational connections through art in the 10th Student Response Exhibition, titled "Bridging Generational Gaps," presented by the Richard and Carole Cocks Art Museum (RCCAM) in collaboration with the university's Department of Art. Inspired by Professor Megan Gerhardt's book "Gentelligence," the exhibition features works in ceramics, photography, textiles, drawing, and poetry from students across disciplines, responding to prompts about defining and bridging generational divides. Visitors can vote for their favorite pieces, with cash awards sponsored by the Art Museum's Members Association, and a reception and awards ceremony will be held on October 29.

10 area artists featured in latest Charles Beck Gallery exhibit

Ten regional artists are featured in 'Second Wind,' a new exhibition opening August 19 at the Charles Beck Gallery on the M State Fergus Falls campus. The show includes paintings, sculpture, jewelry, and other works by Shirlee Daulton, Kim Embretson, Kandace Creel Falcón, Kent Kapplinger, Dan Meckle, Ken Omundson, Susan Seaborn, Sandy Thimgan, Malcolm Thompson, and Mary Jo Wentz. An artist reception will be held September 25. The exhibit was conceived by M State Ceramics Faculty Lori Charest, who was inspired by former President George W. Bush taking up painting after his political career; though Bush declined to participate, Charest pivoted to highlight local artists who found creative renewal later in life.
