The Ella Elizabeth Hise Museum of Regional Art at Southeastern Illinois College has announced a call for entries for its upcoming “Living the Dream: Veteran Art Exhibition.” The exhibit, running from July 3 through September 11, will highlight original works by veteran artists with connections to the Heartland region. Submissions are due by June 1, and AI-generated artwork will not be accepted.
The Yahara Journal is hosting a celebration on May 1 from 1 p.m. to 2:30 p.m. at Truax Gallery to mark the opening of its student art show and the release of its latest book. The art show, featuring 70 pieces by 31 student artists including photographs, paintings, and ceramic works, will be on display from April 29 through May 15. During the event, the journal will honor the 44 students featured in the new edition and invite attendees to read from their work. Free copies of the book will be available at the celebration, with additional copies at the Student Life Office and branch campus offices.
The New Bedford Art Museum is hosting its annual spring gala, 'Fiesta Viva Mexico,' on May 7 from 6 to 8:30 PM. The event will feature an immersive evening with the exhibition 'Resistance: Cultural and Political Narratives in Mexican Art,' live Mariachi music, a traditional Mexican dance performance, an illusionist show by Lyn Dillies, themed cocktails, and a Mexican-inspired menu. The Patron of the Arts Award will also be presented during the gala.
