NEXTpittsburgh's August gallery guide highlights a wave of Pittsburgh-made art appearing in streets, coffeehouses, open studios, and even a warehouse in Brooklyn. Featured exhibitions include the Pittsburgh Photography Club's 140-year retrospective at Manos Gallery, Monica Matthews' graphite pencil drawings at Ruckus Coffee Gallery & Café, the juried group show "Living Canvas III" at Studio 4, Kristin Divers' pastel solo show at Mark Rengers Gallery, the multimedia group exhibition "Horizons" at Castle Consortia, and Annie Heisey's paintings at Sweetwater Center for the Arts. The month also includes a one-night solo show by New Orleans muralist Dago at Studio 4.

Artists invited to submit work for Moraine Valley’s annual community show

Moraine Valley Community College in Palos Hills, Illinois, is inviting artists aged 18 and older living within 50 miles to submit up to two pieces for its 23rd annual community art show. Submissions are accepted May 19-21, with notifications on May 26. The exhibition runs May 29 to July 30, opening with a reception and awards ceremony on May 30. This year’s juror is Lisa DeLuca, a photographer and teaching artist with experience as a recruiter for art schools and a docent at the Museum of Contemporary Art, Chicago. She has previously juried the college’s high school exhibition and other regional shows.

LOOK: Winning artists crowned at Rugby Open exhibition

The Rugby Open 25 exhibition has opened at Rugby Art Gallery and Museum, showcasing works from contemporary artists across the Midlands. A panel of judges, including Arts Council Collection director Alona Pardo and Art Riot Collective creative director Kyla Craig, selected the pieces. Paul Anthony Goalby won the overall prize of £1,000 for his painting 'The Placeholder,' plus £500 for a solo exhibition, while Dexter Rudkin won the Youth Open for 'Boo!' Other award winners include Ella Black, Victoria Wyton-Mills, Jo McChesney, Carmen Tilley, Jane Tilley, James Tallon, Katherine Taylor, Sandra Jenkins, and Hannah Venkatasamy. The exhibition also features a supporting show, '25 for 25,' celebrating the venue's 25th anniversary.
