UAE art guide: 12 museum and gallery exhibitions to see, including Gallery Isabelle's 20th anniversary show

The UAE art scene is currently hosting a diverse array of exhibitions across Abu Dhabi, Dubai, and Sharjah, despite regional disruptions. Key highlights include a major Picasso retrospective at Louvre Abu Dhabi, a 10th-century anniversary celebration at 421 Arts Campus titled 'Rays, Ripples, Residue,' and the inaugural photography exhibition at Sharjah Art Foundation’s new Al Manakh venue. These shows range from historical surveys of the human form to contemporary explorations of UAE’s urban development and climate change.

“Iter Subterraneum” / Bergen Kunsthall, Bergen by Adele Seip

Bergen Kunsthall has launched "Iter Subterraneum," a group exhibition inspired by Ludvig Holberg’s 1741 satirical novel about a man who falls through a cave in Bergen into a subterranean world. The show features ten international artists, including Robert Gabris, Anicka Yi, and Cecilia Fiona, whose works span video, sculpture, and performance. By pairing historical editions of Holberg’s book with contemporary installations, the exhibition explores themes of displacement, collective existence, and the blurring of lines between human and non-human life.

Everywhere All at Once: A Review of “David Hockney—Perspective Should Be Reversed” at Grand Rapids Art Museum

The Grand Rapids Art Museum has opened "David Hockney: Perspective Should Be Reversed," a comprehensive exhibition of 145 prints and multiples spanning the British artist's six-decade career from 1954 to the present. Sourced from the Jordan Schnitzer Family Foundation's collection, the show is organized thematically rather than chronologically, highlighting Hockney's diaristic subjects and his restless experimentation with print and photographic technologies, from hand-colored lithographs to iPad drawings.
