Marilyn Minter has been named the 28th recipient of the International Artist Award by the Anderson Ranch Arts Center. The artist, celebrated for her feminist works that merge painting and photography, will be honored during the center's annual Ranch Week in July. At 82, ceramicist Pippin Drysdale is the subject of a major retrospective, "Infinite Terrain," which opened in December at the Art Gallery of Western Australia (AGWA). The exhibition, curated by Isobel Wise, spans Drysdale's prolific 40-year career and was sparked by a chance, spirited encounter with AGWA director Colin Walker. Drysdale, who began ceramics in 1981 after earlier ventures in herbs and paper flowers, studied at Perth Tech, Anderson Ranch in Colorado, and Curtin University, and her work has been deeply influenced by travels to Italy, Siberia, and Russia.
Asheville-based artist Harley Burns discusses their transition from a career in public health to a full-time painting practice centered on trans and gender-nonconforming identity in the American South. The interview focuses on Burns's triptych "Buttoning Back Up" (2025), which translates a vulnerable public performance of chest-binding into a series of oil paintings that explore the hypervisibility and invisibility of non-binary bodies.
The Anderson Ranch Arts Center in Snowmass Village, Colorado, has announced it will offer five-week residencies to 15 Los Angeles artists whose homes and studios were destroyed or severely impacted by the January wildfires, including in the hard-hit area of Altadena. Starting October 15, the program fees will be waived, funded by Bloomberg Philanthropies and Anne and Arnold Porath, among others. Artists were selected by an outside jury from 30–40 applicants, and the cohort will live together in a dorm-like facility with individual studios and communal meals.
The 2025 Aspen Art Fair returns to the Hotel Jerome for its second edition, running through August 2, with over 40 exhibitors from more than 15 countries. The fair has more than doubled in size from its inaugural year, now featuring 44 galleries, curated projects, conversations, and cultural programming. Highlights include a solo exhibition by Marc Dennis at Harper’s, featuring works inspired by the 1990 Isabella Stewart Gardner Museum heist, and Marjorie Strider’s Pop Art relief paintings at Galerie Gmurzynska. The fair is part of Aspen Art Week, which also includes the Aspen Art Museum’s ArtCrush Gala and Auction, Anderson Ranch Arts Center conversations, and public art projects.
