Acclaimed Canadian abstract artist Julia Dault is shifting her focus from the international blue-chip art circuit toward community-based engagement. Following a period of personal reflection, Dault established Hot Pizza, a community art studio in Toronto dedicated to the motto "art for everyone," while simultaneously debuting her latest solo exhibition, "Primary Information," at Bradley Ertaskiran in Montreal.
Dulwich Picture Gallery in south London will open a newly transformed sculpture garden to the public on 6-7 September, as the centerpiece of its £5m Open Art project. The redevelopment reclaims previously underused green space for a rotating programme of contemporary art on two-year loans, alongside permanent works including a land art piece by Kim Wilkie, an ArtPlay Pavilion designed by HoLD Collective and Carmody Groarke, and a new entrance restoring elements of John Soane's 1811 plans. The project is funded by principal donor The Lovington Foundation, The Julia Rausing Trust, the Manton Foundation, and a public campaign, as the gallery receives no regular government funding.
Christopher Knight, the Pulitzer Prize-winning art critic for the Los Angeles Times, is retiring after more than 40 years in the field, with his final day set for November 28. Knight spent 36 of those years at the Los Angeles Times, becoming one of the last full-time art critics at a major U.S. daily newspaper. He won the Pulitzer Prize for criticism in 2020 for his incisive coverage of the Los Angeles County Museum of Art's proposed overhaul, and received a $50,000 Lifetime Achievement Award for Art Journalism from the Dorothea and Leo Rabkin Foundation the same year. Knight also authored two books and appeared on programs like 60 Minutes and PBS NewsHour.
SM City Clark in the Philippines launched 'Art for Everyone,' an inclusive art fair running from July 1 to 14, 2025. Organized by SM Supermalls, the event features artists of all ages and backgrounds, including first-time exhibitors and veteran creators aged 4 to 73. Highlights include works by artists with diverse abilities, such as Toni and Aljo Pescador, and the fair builds on the success of last year's Gold Stevie Award-winning Art Market.
