Mario Schifano, the artist who anticipated Arte Povera and beyond. What the exhibition in Rome looks like

The Palazzo delle Esposizioni in Rome has opened a major retrospective of Mario Schifano, curated by Daniela Lancioni and titled simply "Mario Schifano," running until July 12. The exhibition reconstructs the career of the Italian artist (1934–1998), who worked across painting, film, and music, and highlights his role as a precursor to Arte Povera. A centerpiece is the reconstructed dining room Schifano created for the Rome home of Marella and Gianni Agnelli in 1968, featuring 14 canvases and a planned but unrealized sand-filled room with a pyramid, a detail revealed by film producer Ettore Rosboch in a conversation with the curator.

‘You’re so close you can see how their toes grip the floor’: Wayne McGregor on his radical new immersive dance experience

Wayne McGregor, artistic director of the Biennale Danza in Venice, has created a new immersive dance installation titled 'On the Other Earth' in collaboration with artist Jeffrey Shaw and digital museologist Sarah Kenderdine. The work features a 360-degree 'nVis' environment with a massive 12K LED screen, allowing dancers from McGregor's company and the Hong Kong Ballet to perform in extreme close-up. The installation will travel to the Venice Film Festival, Stone's Nest in London as part of McGregor's exhibition 'Infinite Bodies' at Somerset House, and later to the Tai Kwun Centre for Heritage and Arts in Hong Kong.

Bonollo Foundation explores the body and mind with two new exhibition projects

The Sandra and Giancarlo Bonollo Foundation for Contemporary Art in Thiene, Italy, has launched two new exhibition projects: the group show "Body in Motion" and a solo exhibition titled "Sanatorium" by Polish artist Tomasz Kowalski. Both opened on May 23, 2026, with "Body in Motion" running until November 7 and "Sanatorium" until September 30. "Body in Motion," curated by Chiara Nuzzi, features works from the Bonollo Collection by artists including Monica Bonvicini, Talia Chetrit, Sam Durant, Mona Hatoum, and others, exploring the body as a site of relationship, resistance, and identity. "Sanatorium," curated by Elisa Carollo, presents Kowalski's recent paintings that use the metaphor of a sanatorium to examine perception, memory, and the boundaries between imagination and reality, designed specifically for the foundation's space in a former religious and psychiatric complex.
