Rooted in Place: Humboldt Alumni and Staff Shine at de Young’s New Indigenous Art Exhibition

Cal Poly Humboldt alumni and staff are prominently featured in "Rooted in Place: California Native Art," a new exhibition at the de Young Museum in San Francisco that highlights Northern California’s Indigenous artists. The show includes works by the late Karuk painter Brian D. Tripp, Hupa artist and gallery director Brittany Britton, and other contributors such as Robert Benson, George Blake, Lena R. Bommelyn, and Shoshoni Gensaw-Hostler. Britton's beaded chair and Gensaw-Hostler's dentalium-shell cape are among the pieces displayed in the newly reinstalled Arts of Indigenous America galleries, which focus on the Hupa, Karuk, Tolowa, Wiyot, and Yurok peoples.

In My Place in My Time: Brian Tripp Archive Exhibition – 2 Upcoming Events

Cal Poly Humboldt's Reese Bullen & Goudi’ni Native American Arts Galleries will present "In My Time, In My Place: Brian Tripp Archive," an exhibition exploring the late Karuk artist Brian D. Tripp's (1945–2022) use of personal texts, symbols, and geometric language. The show runs April 2 through May 16, 2026, featuring reproduced archival materials from Tripp's papers held in the Cal Poly Humboldt Library Special Collections. Two related events are scheduled: an Artist on Artist Talk with Bob Benson on April 29 and an Archivist Talk with Susan Gehr and Carly Marino on May 7.

2026 Art Graduates Exhibition – Cal Poly Humboldt Reese Bullen Gallery

Cal Poly Humboldt's Reese Bullen Gallery will host the 2026 Art Graduates Exhibition from April 22 to May 16, 2026, showcasing work by graduating art majors and minors. The exhibition features ceramics, painting, photography, printmaking, small metals, sculpture, and digital arts, with an Awards Presentation on April 30. The gallery, established in 1970 and named after a founding art professor, is located on the university campus.
