Cultured magazine asked 25 photographers to each select a single image for a time capsule representing the first quarter of the 21st century. The resulting portfolio includes works by Juergen Teller (a Balenciaga ad featuring Putin, Trump, and climate imagery), Sinna Nasseri (a cat amid a California wildfire), Naima Green (a domestic scene mediated by smartphones), Lele Saveri (a critique of property ownership), and Trevor Paglen (a CIA black site in Kabul), among others.

What am I bid for a blown-up van? The bizarre art auction aiming to build an eco power station in Reform-held Clacton

Artists Hilary Powell and Dan Edelstyn are auctioning off their work from the past 15 years this Saturday to raise at least £250,000 for a community-led renewable power station in Clacton, the constituency of Reform UK leader Nigel Farage. The auction, which will be conducted by former YBA Gavin Turk, includes a gold Ford Transit van wreckage containing fake banknotes that the pair blew up in 2019 as part of their film *Bank Job*, now reconstituted as a mobile sculpture. An online auction runs until 31 May, but currently only £750 has been raised.

Group creates hidden gem 'haven for art' in seaside town centre

A collective of local residents founded Clacton Arts Centre (CAC) in late 2023 in Clacton-on-Sea, Essex, to address the town's lack of free creative activities. A pop-up gallery, the Clacton Art Gallery, opened in a vacant retail unit in September 2024 and became a permanent hub after strong public support, now showcasing work from 39 local artists. The centre runs monthly acoustic music showcases, open mic nights, theatrical performances, and outdoor events, with ambitions to secure a permanent venue.
