Jessica Fuentes and Brandon Zech, returning to the 2026 Dallas Art Fair, found the event familiar rather than surprising. Fuentes noted that after attending major fairs like Frieze, NADA, and the Armory Show, many works by Texas galleries felt recognizable. Zech observed an overarching theme of flora and fauna, with flower paintings dominating both the art and attendees' fashion. Fuentes, however, was drawn to figurative pieces, influenced by her recent visit to Mexico City Art Week. Standout works included Jessica Vollrath's painting "A thousand hills" at Erin Cluley Gallery, which marked a stylistic shift in color and composition.
Design Miami celebrates its 20th anniversary with the theme "Make. Believe.," curated by Glenn Adamson, emphasizing the evolving possibilities of collectible design. The fair features the 10th anniversary of the Curatorial Lab Annual Design Commission, including a mirrored carousel by ceramicist Katie Stout, alongside works by artists such as Bea Pernia, Pia-Maria Raeder, Joyce Billet, Teemu Salonen, Jennifer Trask, Roham Shamekh, and Clotilde Ancarani. Pieces range from a chrome-and-stone chair inspired by marine life to benches that double as planters, reflecting a pervasive focus on flora and fauna.
Easton's downtown art scene came alive during the May First Friday event, with multiple galleries opening their doors to the public. At the Zach Gallery inside the Prager Family Center for the Arts, a new exhibition of paintings by Paton Miller was curated by interior designer Jeffrey Parker. The TRA Gallery, run by the Talbot Arts Council, featured a photography show by Steve Waltrich, Mike Miller, and Maire McCardle. Troika Gallery, Easton's original fine art gallery, also participated, with artist Deborah Elville showing her work. Sculptor Lloyd Le Blanc has died at the age of 85. He was known for creating large-scale bronze works of flora and fauna and, with his wife Judith Holmes Drewry, established the Le Blanc Fine Art foundry and studios in Saxby, Leicestershire. Le Blanc was involved in every stage of his sculptures' creation and also cast works for other artists from his foundry.
Morpeth Contemporary in Hopewell, New Jersey, is presenting “An Echo Familiar,” a solo exhibition of new paintings and sculptures by artist Mare McClellan, running from May 2 through May 24. The show features works inspired by McClellan's recent observations of caterpillars and moths, including mixed-media paintings with layered color and texture, as well as cocoon-like sculptures wrapped in wire and natural fibers. An opening reception will be held on May 2, followed by a Meet the Artist event on May 17.
Chicago-based multidisciplinary artist Yvette Mayorga, in collaboration with Austin’s nonprofit MASS Gallery, has announced an open call for artists living in the Greater Austin area to submit existing works for an exhibition titled *Lost and Found*, scheduled for January 17 through February 14, 2026, at MASS Gallery. The open call is part of the community engagement phase of Mayorga’s major public art project for the new concourse at Austin-Bergstrom International Airport (ABIA), set to open in 2030. Her project draws on her ancestral ties to the Bracero Program, exploring the emotional resonance of personal objects carried across borders and generations. The exhibition aims to give visibility to local artists while building community around themes of migration, ecology, and the flora and fauna of Texas and Mexico.
Art a path to conservation
Dunedin-based artist Clare Reilly is celebrating her 50th year of exhibiting with a practice that merges vibrant depictions of New Zealand’s native flora and fauna with active environmental advocacy. Her work, which frequently features birds in flight as symbols of spiritual uplift, serves as both a tribute to the natural world and a warning about habitat loss. Through her career, she has collaborated with her late husband Max Podstolski under the Primitive Bird Group banner and participated in hands-on conservation efforts, such as the tūī relocation project to Banks Peninsula.
The Art League of Ocean City will host its May First Friday reception on May 1, from 5 to 7 p.m. at the Ocean City Center for the Arts. Highlights include Patrick Leib's participatory "Little Free Art Gallery" installation, a new utility box mural by Brandon Bell, and several gallery exhibitions: "Saltwater Taffy" (fiber arts) at the Thaler Gallery, "Flora and Fauna" (juried photography) at the Sisson Gallery, "Celebrating the Year of the Horse" by Joanne Guilfoil and Lynn Yockelson at Studio E, and mosaic works by William Camelio at the Spotlight Gallery. Studio Joli has launched its 2026 programming with a new exhibition titled "Artistic Expressions" presented by Canvas Caribbean, an artists' group formed in 2004 by graduates of the visual arts programmes of the University of the West Indies (UWI). The show features works by six members—Leona Fabien, Adele Bynoe, Raymond Alexander, Kathy Farabi, Tricia Ward, and Vejaya Mungal—spanning vibrant florals on silk, bold wildlife in acrylic, faceted copper, watercolours, and mixed media. The exhibition opens on January 21 and runs through February 2 at Studio Joli in St James, Trinidad.
Milwaukee tile artist Ben Tyjeski has opened his first solo exhibition, 'Birds and Blooms,' at the Grove Gallery in Milwaukee, running through October 18. The show features 40 handmade faience tile panels depicting native flora and fauna, inspired by the historic ornamentation of Milwaukee's Wells Building and the artist's explorations of local parks and natural spaces. Tyjeski, who previously wrote about Milwaukee's historic faience tiles and architectural terra cotta, uses a wet-clay carving and hand-glazing process to create intricate, nature-themed designs.
