New Exhibition at Mexico City’s Jumex Museum Draws Parallels Between Soccer and Art

The Jumex Museum in Mexico City has launched a major exhibition titled "Football & Art: A Shared Emotion," timed to coincide with the city's role as a host for the 2026 FIFA World Cup. Curated by Guillermo Santamarina, the show features a diverse array of media including sculpture, photography, and commissioned installations from renowned artists such as Jeff Koons, Graciela Iturbide, and Marta Minujín. Notable works include a sculptural installation by the collective Tercerunquinto using salvaged seats from the Azteca Stadium and an embroidered piece by Sofía Echeverri honoring the 1971 Mexico Women’s National Team.

The C/O Berlin gallery is presenting "Eyes to Fly With (Ojos para volar)," the first major retrospective in Germany of renowned Mexican photographer Graciela Iturbide. The exhibition, curated by Sophia Greiff and Melissa Harris in close collaboration with Iturbide, runs from February 7 to June 10 and features her iconic works like "Nuestra Señora de las Iguanas" alongside lesser-known series on fashion, the cholo community in Los Angeles, and her travels in India and Bangladesh.

C/O Berlin is hosting "Eyes to Fly With," the first major retrospective of Mexican photographer Graciela Iturbide in the German capital. The exhibition features approximately 250 works spanning over five decades, ranging from her iconic documentary series of the Seri and Juchitán people to her more introspective studies of Chicano culture in Los Angeles and the personal belongings of Frida Kahlo at Casa Azul.

The Miraflores Palace of Arts (PLAM) in Lima is hosting "A Collection Is a Desire," a major exhibition featuring over 100 works from the Jan Mulder Collection. This presentation is an expanded version of a landmark 2012 showcase at the Rencontres d'Arles, which was the first time a private Latin American photography collection was featured at the prestigious French festival. The exhibition includes works by iconic figures such as Martín Chambi, Graciela Iturbide, and Vik Muñiz, spanning various periods and geographical contexts.
