Public Images Gallery opens on Route 66

Public Images Gallery, a new art space owned by Larry White, opens on Route 66 in Tulsa at 1507 E. 11th Street, next to Ike’s Chili. Its inaugural exhibition, “Roots, Rock, and Rebels ... The Photography of Henry Diltz,” features the work of renowned rock photographer Henry Diltz. An abridged version of this show was previously held at the Woody Guthrie Center in Tulsa in 2019 but was cut short due to the COVID-19 pandemic. The grand opening takes place on May 1 from 4 to 10 p.m., with Diltz appearing in person during First Friday festivities.

Art in the Berkshires Opens Gallery, Creative Studio

Art in the Berkshires, an online hub for visual arts in Berkshire County, is opening its first physical gallery and creative studio at 8 Castle Street in downtown Great Barrington, Massachusetts this spring. The space will showcase regional artists, artisans, and makers, featuring fine art, functional art, and curated artisanal goods, while also hosting workshops, artist talks, demonstrations, readings, and performances. The inaugural exhibition, "The Berkshires Now," includes work from over thirty Berkshire-based and regional artists across disciplines such as painting, sculpture, ceramics, glass, and functional objects. A grand opening reception is scheduled for Saturday, May 2, from 4–6 PM, preceded by a ribbon-cutting ceremony at 3:45 PM.

'A space that feels like us, that looks like us'

The Center for Black Excellence and Culture will open on West Badger Road in Madison on May 6, after years of planning and raising over $32 million from roughly 1,300 donors. The facility includes a central gallery, display spaces, a 280-seat fine arts theater, a black box theater, a library, a Black studies reading room, a recording studio, and a women's empowerment center. The grand opening will feature performances by The House Urban Arts Initiative Inc., Dana Pellebon, Theola Carter, Anthony Brown, and others. The inaugural visual arts exhibition, "Neo Black Renaissance: A Vision in One's Mind," will run through August, showcasing works by artists including Comfort Wasikhongo, Odalo Wasikhongo, Marlon Banks, Brooklyn Doby, Jessica Patterson, Fatima Laster, and Shalicia Johnson.
