epstein files reveal museum director david a ross

David A. Ross, a prominent museum director and chair of the MFA Art Practice program at New York's School of Visual Arts, resigned after ARTnews revealed his numerous appearances in the newly released Jeffrey Epstein files. The documents, released by the Justice Department, show correspondence between Ross and Epstein dating back to 1995, including emails where Ross offered support to Epstein after his 2008 arrest and discussed a controversial exhibition concept proposed by Epstein.

‘Surreal Salon 18,’ Curated by Swoon, to Open at Baton Rouge Gallery with 60+ Artists

The 18th edition of Surreal Salon, an annual international exhibition celebrating Pop-surrealism and Lowbrow art, will open at Baton Rouge Gallery – center for contemporary art (BRG) from January 2 to 25, 2026. Curated by special guest juror Swoon (Caledonia Curry), the multimedia show features over 60 artists from the U.S. and abroad, selected from nearly 800 submissions through a blind jurying process. The exhibition is free and presented in partnership with Louisiana State University’s School of Art, with additional events including a talk by Swoon on January 26 and a costume soiree on January 24.

Teiger Foundation gives grants totalling $7m to 85 curators

The Teiger Foundation, a US-based nonprofit supporting art curators, has announced its 2025 grantees, awarding a total of $7 million to 85 curators at institutions across the country. This nearly doubles last year’s grants as the foundation transitions to a biennial model, with individual grants ranging from $50,000 to $150,000 for exhibitions, research, touring shows, and three years of programming. Notable projects include a major survey of the late artist L.V. Hull organized by curators Ryan N. Dennis, Annalise Flynn, and Yaphet Smith, and a Theresa Hak Kyung Cha retrospective curated by Victoria Sung and Tausif Noor.
