5 Artists on Our Radar in January 2026

Artsy's January 2026 edition of 'Artists on Our Radar' highlights five emerging visual artists: Elladj Lincy Deloumeaux, Xiaochi Dong, and Bobbye Fermie (with two others implied). Deloumeaux, born in Guadeloupe and based in Paris, paints solitary figures exploring identity and displacement; his work is featured in a group show at Loft Art Gallery in Marrakech and he has a solo show upcoming at Musée de la Parure de Marrakech. Xiaochi Dong, a Shanghai-born artist trained in classical Chinese painting, creates intimate works evoking gardens and ecosystems, currently in a two-person exhibition at Albion Jeune in London. Bobbye Fermie, an Amsterdam-born London-based artist, produces dreamlike watercolors and collages, with works available at Wilder Gallery.

FSU MoFA exhibition examines Indigenous relationships with water

Florida State University Museum of Fine Arts (MoFA) has opened "Water Ways: Indigenous Ecologies and Florida Heritage," an exhibition examining Indigenous relationships with water through historical artifacts and contemporary art. Curated by Elizabeth A. Cecil, the show features works by Harold García V (El Quinto), Samboleap Tol, and Wilson Bowers, alongside ancient cypress dugout canoes, ceramics, tools, and a mask from the New Orleans Museum of Art. The exhibition runs from September 18, 2025, to March 14, 2026, with accompanying events including artist talks, a symposium, and a book club.

St. Albert’s VASA creates love letter to drawing

The Visual Arts Studio Association (VASA) in St. Albert is presenting 'Urban Sketching,' an exhibition featuring over 60 sketches by local artists including Lily Jeong, Julie Daly, Luise Mendler-Johnston, Elena Vlassova, Sandra Soucy, Angie Sotiropoulos, and Otto Mestinsek. The show focuses on landscapes and buildings rendered in basic, primitive styles, highlighting the artists' experimentation with simple tools like watercolours, pen and ink, and acrylic on wood. Works range from Vlassova's unfinished campus scene to Jeong's urban landscapes of Edmonton landmarks and Mendler-Johnston's mini sketches of everyday life.

The historic Palazzo Caffè Nazionale in Recoaro Terme, a small spa town in the Veneto region of Italy, is being transformed into a contemporary art center called Cantiere del Contemporaneo, set to open on May 2, 2026. The project, curated by Elisabetta Bacchin, will focus on artist residencies, with the inaugural group including Romesh Bothalage, Pietro Chiarello, Francesco Pizzocchero, and Virginia Stevenin, who will work for two months in the converted spaces. The initiative is part of a broader regeneration plan funded by the National Plan for Borghi and the European Union's PNRR funds, aiming to revitalize the town's cultural and economic identity through contemporary art.
