A significant number of New York art galleries, including major players like Pace Gallery, David Zwirner, and Marian Goodman, will close on January 30 to join a nationwide general strike protesting expanded Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) operations. The strike is a response to allegations of federal overreach, including the use of deadly force against protestors and the detention of Native Americans, which have fueled widespread outrage.
Untitled Art, Miami Beach has announced the 157 exhibitors for its 2025 edition, running December 3–7 on Miami Beach. The fair introduces a new “Artist Spotlight” section organized by artist Petra Cortright, alongside its main Galleries section and the reimagined Nest section curated by Jonny Tanna. Notable first-time exhibitors include Meliksetian | Briggs, PALMA, and Soho Revue in the main section, while several galleries have switched from NADA and Art Basel Miami Beach, including Kavi Gupta returning after a lawsuit hiatus. The fair also features Allison Glenn as curator of site-specific Special Projects.
Montclair State University Galleries will present “Carpe Diem: Select Alumni in the Visual Arts” from February 3 to May 3, 2026, at the George Segal Gallery. The cross-generational group exhibition features 12 accomplished alumni artists whose careers span from 1943 to 2024, including internationally recognized figures such as Bisa Butler, Pope.L, and Allen Ginsberg. Curated by Art and Design Professor Sally Morgan Lehman, the show highlights a range of media—photography, poetry, quilted portraits, mixed media, and video installations—and includes both established and emerging voices.
The Art Gallery at the University of Hawaiʻi at Mānoa presents "Interisland: New Paintings from New York & Hawaiʻi," a survey exhibition running from August 31 to December 7, 2025. Featuring approximately 40 painters from New York City and Hawaiʻi, the show explores commonalities and differences in contemporary painting across these geographically distant regions. Curated by Liam Davis, Jan Dickey, and Debra Drexler, the exhibition marks the ten-year anniversary of "New New York: Abstract Painting in the 21st Century" and includes a spectrum of representational and nonrepresentational works from artists such as Cody Anderson, Kiko Bordeos, and Clare Grill.
Maine artist Carly Glovinski has opened "Into the Garden," her third solo exhibition with New York's Morgan Lehman Gallery. The show explores gardening as a parallel practice to art-making, inspired by her residency at Surf Point in southern Maine, where she discovered the overgrown grounds of Wild Knoll, the former home of author May Sarton. Glovinski planted a community garden there, the Wild Knoll Foundation Garden, and the experience led her to return to painting after a two-decade hiatus, creating acrylic works that express the experience of gardening rather than traditional landscapes.
The inaugural Conductor Art Fair debuted at Powerhouse Arts in Brooklyn, running through May 3. Co-curated by fair director Adriana Farietta and PHA president Eric Shiner, the event features 28 gallery exhibitors and 20 special projects, with a focus on representing "the global majority and Indigenous nations." Highlights include an immersive yurt installation by Vuslat and Sana Frini, works by Palestinian artist Khaled Jarrar, Puerto Rican sculptor Margarita Vincenty, Venezuelan artist Esmelyn Miranda, and Bangladeshi artist Bishwajit Goswami. The fair offers affordable booth fees starting at $2,500 for nonprofits and free participation for self-representing artists with a 30% sales donation to PHA.
