Pioneering Brazilian artist Lygia Pape's estate is now represented by Mendes Wood DM

Mendes Wood DM now represents the estate of pioneering Brazilian artist Lygia Pape (1927-2004), a central figure in the Concrete and Neo-Concrete art movements. The gallery, founded by Pedro Mendes, Felipe Dmab, and Matthew Wood, operates spaces in São Paulo, Brussels, Paris, and New York. It plans a career-spanning exhibition of Pape's work in São Paulo in April 2026, coinciding with SP-Arte and her centenary year, and will bring works to Art Basel in Paris this October. Pape's first retrospective in France, 'Tisser l'espace (Weaving Space),' opens next week at the Pinault Collection's Bourse de Commerce in Paris, running from 10 September to 23 February 2026.

New Exhibition Explores Immersive Art Created by Women Artists in the 1960s and 1970s

Leeum Museum of Art in Seoul has opened "Inside Other Spaces: Environments by Women Artists 1956–1976," an exhibition that reconstructs immersive environments created by women artists from Europe, Asia, and the Americas. Originally organized with Munich’s Haus der Kunst, the Seoul presentation expands the project with additional works by Korean and Asian artists, including Jung Kangja’s "Muche-Jeon (Incorporeal Exhibition)." The show features reconstructed works by pioneers such as Lygia Clark, Marta Minujín, Nanda Vigo, and Tsuruko Yamazaki, whose 1956 piece "Red" is the earliest environment included. Visitors are invited to physically enter installations made of mirrors, translucent materials, sound, and light, experiencing art that dissolves boundaries between artwork, architecture, and viewer participation.

New museum dedicated to AI promises an ethical approach

Dataland, billed as the world's first museum dedicated to AI art, is set to open on June 20 in Los Angeles at The Grand LA, a Frank Gehry-designed complex. Co-founded by Turkish-American artist Refik Anadol, the 35,000-square-foot privately-funded museum will feature five immersive galleries. Its inaugural exhibition, *Machine Dreams: Rainforest*, is an audiovisual experience based on millions of images and sounds of nature, inspired by a visit Anadol and co-founder Efsun Erkılıç made to the Amazon rainforest. Anadol is known for his generative AI piece at MoMA in 2022 and a projection on the Walt Disney Concert Hall.
