Printed Matter’s LA Art Book Fair Returns May 7–10

Printed Matter's LA Art Book Fair (LAABF) returns to ArtCenter South Campus in Pasadena, California, from May 7 to 10, 2026. The fair will feature 250 exhibitors, including international artists, publishers, and booksellers, alongside programs such as talks and panels in The Classroom, music and performances on The Stage, and special Project Spaces presentations by groups like Archivos Desviados, Bread & Puppet Press, and Getty. An Opening Night celebration on May 7, co-organized with Orange Radio & Homebody, will include live music by sonrisita and Mia Carucci, a limited edition ticket by Amia Yokoyama for the first 500 guests, and a new collaborative artist edition by Deanna Templeton and Ed Templeton.

Local Stand-Up Comedian to Open Artist Studio, Gallery in Over-the-Rhine

Local stand-up comedian and portrait photographer Kevin James Thornton is opening a new creative studio and gallery called Shamala Hamala at 1306 Main Street in Cincinnati's Over-the-Rhine neighborhood this Friday. The space includes a private artist workspace with a photographic darkroom, curated exhibitions, and a gallery selling art and creative goods. An opening night celebration on Friday features a harpist, live crocheting, and work from local artists, with free walk-in access after 8 p.m., followed by open hours Saturday and Sunday.

New Ships of the Sea exhibition to feature comic book style art

The Ships of the Sea Maritime Museum in Savannah, Georgia, has opened a new exhibition titled "Drawn to the Sea: Maritime Stories of Savannah." The show features work by four sequential artists who use comic book style art to interpret historic ships at the museum, including the Anne, SS Savannah, Pulaski, and Wanderer. The exhibition opened on May 2, 2026, with a free opening night celebration and will run through January 31, 2027.
