Local artists’ works in national IHC exhibition

An exhibition showcasing artwork by 20 local artists with intellectual disabilities will be held at The Loan & Merc in Oamaru next Friday. The North Otago IHC Association Art Exhibition features works by artists including Lisa Graham, Dan Joyce, Katie Mcrae, Christopher Wright, and Katrina Hewitt, with all participants also set to appear in a national exhibition in Wellington next month as part of the IHC National Art Awards. Artists receive 100% of proceeds from sales, and the group attends weekly art classes throughout the year.

Her work includes three-dimensional pieces that project colored light onto walls, functional room dividers, and sculptural objects made using hand-cut copper foil techniques. Green aims to shift perception of stained glass from architectural feature to standalone art object, emphasizing pure color and texture.

Hirshhorn Museum and Sculpture Garden Announces 314 New Acquisitions During 50th Anniversary Year

The Smithsonian's Hirshhorn Museum and Sculpture Garden announced 314 new acquisitions in 2025, its 50th anniversary year. The additions span photography, mixed-media works, and contemporary American artists, including pieces by Lorna Simpson, Sarah Sze, Mickalene Thomas, Danny Lyon, Graciela Iturbide, Adam Pendleton, and Mark Bradford. Major gifts include a multi-year donation from collectors Doug and Toni Gordon of 176 works forming an archive of Pendleton's works on paper, as well as 13 contemporary Chinese works tied to a 2022 exhibition. The museum also acquired nine architectural photographs by Ezra Stoller documenting its 1974 opening and 19 prints by Joel-Peter Witkin.
