Juried Art Exhibition finds universal themes in diverse works
The Piccolo Spoleto Juried Art Exhibition at City Gallery in Charleston features over 80 South Carolina artists, with top honors awarded to Hirona Matsuda's interactive sculpture "Sitting with Yourself" (first place), Alvin Staley's self-portrait "Born Behind the Eight Ball" (second), and Tyler Blanton's "Rats Love" (third). Juror Michael Dickins, director of the Halsey Institute of Contemporary Art, selected the winners from nearly 250 submissions, emphasizing authenticity, thoughtful execution, and works that spark conversation. The free exhibition runs through June 7, showcasing diverse media including painting, sculpture, drawing, printmaking, and photography.
