miami bakehouse art complex celebrates 40 years

The Bakehouse Art Complex in Miami’s Wynwood district is celebrating its 40th anniversary and the 100th anniversary of its Art Deco building, which originally opened as a bakery in 1926. Founded in 1985 by a group of artists who purchased the abandoned industrial bakery for $10, the nonprofit has provided studio space to over 1,500 local artists. The celebration kicked off with an exhibition titled “Bakehouse at Forty: Past, Present, Future,” attended by more than 1,000 guests, and included a gala fundraiser with affordable ticket prices. The organization is now planning to build 60 units of affordable artist housing as part of a revitalized campus.

Spruill Center for the Arts to add 15 artist studios in Chamblee

The Spruill Center for the Arts is expanding its footprint by converting the former Chamblee City Hall into a new creative hub called Spruill Studios. Scheduled to open in June 2026, the 6,796-square-foot facility will house 15 affordable artist studios and a dedicated exhibition space. The project is the result of a strategic partnership with the City of Chamblee, which is leasing the 2002 building to the nonprofit for just $1 per year.

Artists open their doors to the public at Gowanus Open Studios, Oct. 18-19

Gowanus Open Studios returns on October 18-19, inviting the public into the studios of hundreds of local artists across dozens of locations in Brooklyn. Artists find an affordable home at this South Nashville coworking space

A group of Nashville artists opened the exhibition "A Night in Tokyo" at Kreate Hub, a South Nashville coworking and studio space. Amid a cost of living crisis for London’s artists, a charity has secured dozens of affordable studio spaces

Bow Arts, a UK charity founded in 1994, has acquired two buildings in east London to create permanently affordable studio spaces for artists. The purchases include a site in the Hackney Yards development, developed in partnership with housing association Notting Hill Genesis and supported by Arts Council England and the London Legacy Development Corporation, which will provide 38 studios by 2026, and the Brutalist Lakeside Centre in Thamesmead, already housing over 40 artist studios. This follows Bow Arts’ first owned building, Three Waters, acquired in 2022 on a 999-year lease with 70 studios. The charity now owns three of the 28 buildings it manages across London, with an annual turnover of £5.1 million, most of which is reinvested into the creative community.

TWiST Art Gallery opens in Naples

TWiST Art Gallery, Art Space & Artist Studios has opened in the Bayshore Arts District of Naples, Florida, as a new non-profit creative hub. The grand opening was funded primarily by two sold-out Embellished Wearable Arts Fashion Shows in 2024 and 2025, which raised over $100,000 for affordable art classes and studios. Additional support came from The Community Foundation, Jan Edwards, and the Gail Danae Kasbi Foundation. The gallery will offer affordable artist studios, a fine art gallery, community workshops, rotating exhibitions, and monthly First Friday Art Walk events. Monique Kutash has been appointed Art Director, and plans include an artist-in-residence program and a Mini Art Gallery Series featuring outdoor micro-galleries hosted by local businesses.
