Intermezzo: revisiting Helmut Newton

The Helmut Newton Foundation at Berlin's Museum für Fotografie is overhauling its permanent exhibition after more than 20 years, introducing a cinematic installation called "Intermezzo" that uses eight video projectors across four screens to present a film portrait of Helmut Newton. The film incorporates previously unreleased material, including personal recordings by his wife June Newton, and features interviews with figures from Newton's world such as Philippe Garner, Carla Sozzani, and Matthias Harder. Alongside the immersive film, the ground-floor gallery displays nearly 100 of Newton's exhibition posters and launches a new curatorial series, "Spotlight: behind the frame," which will focus on iconic photographs by Helmut Newton or Alice Springs, starting with Newton's 1975 "Rue Aubriot" and Alice Springs' 1970 Gitanes advertisement.

‘Re-scoped’ Alice Springs art gallery on public exhibition

The Northern Territory government has unveiled revised plans for the Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Art Gallery of Australia (ATSIAGA) in Alice Springs/Mparntwe. The redesigned project, led by BVN, Susan Dugdale and Associates, and Clouston Associates, has been reduced from five storeys to three, with 1,300 square metres of exhibition space. A development consent application was submitted earlier this month and is now on public exhibition until 22 August, following cost blowouts that prompted a "re-scoping" of the original scheme. Construction is expected to take 18–24 months, with an opening targeted for late 2027.

New Indigenous Art Gallery at Outback at Isa Officially Opened

A new Indigenous art gallery, the Maltha Waru Arts Workshop, has officially opened at Outback at Isa in Mount Isa, Queensland, on May 30, 2025. Councillor Travis Crowther delivered the opening speech, marking the culmination of months of work by local Indigenous artists and Outback at Isa staff. The gallery, which began operating in December 2024, displays and sells art created by Indigenous artists from North West Queensland, including paintings, jewellery, textiles, carvings, spinifex paper, and contemporary works. Featured artists include Barbara Sam, Rebecca Sam, Hazel Munro, and others.
