The National Portrait Gallery in London is hosting "Catherine Opie: To Be Seen," the first major UK museum exhibition dedicated to the American photographer. The show brings together over 80 photographs spanning 30 years of Opie's career, exploring themes of social, political, and individual identity through studio portraiture, environmental studies, and documentary images.
MUUS Collection has acquired the archive of American photographer Todd Webb (1905–2000), adding approximately 15,000 prints, 50,000 negatives, ephemera, and his extensive journal to its holdings. Webb is known for his evocative postwar images of New York and Paris, as well as his travels across the American West, Great Britain, New Guinea, and Africa. The archive documents his relationships with key figures such as Alfred Stieglitz, Georgia O'Keeffe, Walker Evans, and Berenice Abbott, and will join works by Rosalind Fox Solomon, Larry Fink, and Deborah Turbeville in the collection.
El Museo del Barrio in New York has opened "Sophie Rivera: Double Exposures," the first career survey of the Puerto Rican American photographer (1938-2021). The exhibition reassesses Rivera's practice, highlighting her experimental work beyond her well-known 1978 series "Nuyorican Portraits," which depicted Puerto Rican sitters in Manhattan's Morningside Heights. Curated by Susanna V. Temkin, the show features works across portraiture, photojournalism, and experimental image-making, including the color photograph "Alternators" (1975, printed 1986), which Rivera donated to the museum in the late 1980s.
