Jean-Paul Engelen, currently president for the Americas and worldwide co-head of modern and contemporary art at Phillips auction house, will join Acquavella Galleries as a director starting July 1. Engelen spent a decade at Phillips, where he helped increase auction sales by 72 percent between 2015 and 2021, and previously worked at Christie’s for 16 years and at Qatar Museums.
Julian Ehrlich, a 29-year-old auction specialist known for curating Christie's "Post-War to Present" sales, has joined Gladstone Gallery as a director. At Christie's, he generated over $28 million in a single sale, set records for artists like Ana Mendieta and Ed Clark, and championed overlooked figures such as Joe Overstreet and Rick Lowe. He previously worked in Sotheby's postwar and contemporary art department.
Agustina Ferreyra, a prominent Mexico City-based dealer known for championing young Latin American artists, has been appointed director of OMR, a leading gallery in Mexico City. Ferreyra founded her own gallery in San Juan, Puerto Rico in 2013 before relocating it to Mexico City, and will shutter that eponymous space on April 30. She previously collaborated with OMR during Mexico City Art Week in February through Bodega, a joint initiative that featured a solo exhibition by Argentine artist Ad Minoliti. In her new role, Ferreyra will continue to lead Bodega as artistic director.
Studio B Boyertown has appointed Bob Hakun as its new gallery director. Hakun, an assemblage artist who creates works from found objects, previously worked as a computer graphic designer and prepress manager after his career designing Halloween masks and costumes moved overseas. He is a 1976 graduate of Kutztown University with a BFA in painting. The gallery is also presenting the exhibition “Form & Fiber: 3-Dimensional Expression in Art,” featuring 3-D and fiber works by Hakun and fifteen other artists, running through June 21.
