This year's highlights include whimsical, kinetic installations such as a spinning Christmas tree and sculptural tables designed to mimic the organic forms of flowers, pushing the boundaries between utilitarian furniture and fine art.
Sudarshan Shetty’s seminal 2005 kinetic installation, "Party Is Elsewhere," has been restaged within the decaying remains of an abandoned nightclub in Delhi. The exhibition eschews the traditional "white cube" gallery space, instead utilizing a raw environment of peeling plaster and sagging ceilings to mirror the work's original debut in a fire-damaged Mumbai gallery. The installation features a mechanical system that rhythmically hammers a table of wine glasses beneath a neon sign, creating a sensory experience centered on fragility and deferred presence.
This month’s gallery circuit features a series of high-profile solo exhibitions across the United States, headlined by a museum-quality survey of Jasper Johns at Gagosian. The selection highlights diverse artistic approaches, from Johns’s seminal 1970s crosshatch paintings to Yuko Mohri’s kinetic installations at Tanya Bonakdar and Gabriel de la Mora’s material-focused conceptual works at Perrotin.
