Ripple: Furniture Sculpture and Painting after 1982

David Kordansky Gallery is presenting "Ripple: Furniture Sculpture and Painting after 1982," an exhibition of historic works by Swiss artist John Armleder, on view from May 7 to June 13, 2026. The show focuses on Armleder's Furniture Sculpture series from the 1980s, which incorporates functional or decorative objects alongside paintings, exploring the intersection of art, design, and everyday life. Works like FS 156 (1987) and Untitled (FS) (1987) exemplify his interest in collectivity, chance, and the viewer's role in assigning meaning, influenced by experiences such as a prison stint for refusing conscription and his time on a rowing team, as well as the experimental compositions of Erik Satie and John Cage's writings on chance.

In Galerie Sardine, a New Idea of What the Art Gallery Can Be

Artist Joe Bradley and his wife Valentina Akerman, neither of whom had run an art gallery before, opened Galerie Sardine in a 1701 farmhouse on Main Street in Amagansett, Long Island. The gallery, named after a small fish to convey modesty and portability, attracted crowds of local and visiting art lovers, including prominent dealer Larry Gagosian. The article profiles the couple's backgrounds—Akerman, an architect and former art director from Colombia, and Bradley, a painter who rose to prominence with a solo show at MoMA PS1 in 2006 and now shows with David Zwirner.

Valentina Akerman, an art director and architect, opened Sardine gallery in a weathered Amagansett rental last summer with her husband, artist Joe Bradley. What began as an improvised experiment has grown into a Hamptons success story, now in its second season with a Summer 2025 program featuring film series, residencies, dinners, and four exhibitions pairing painters with sculptors. The gallery also hosted a pop-up in Paris during Art Basel Paris and is organizing a group show at Le Consortium Museum’s summer space in Burgundy.

The gallery's debut season includes residencies and exhibitions with artists such as Jean Prounis, Julian Kent, Joline Kwakkenbos, Tenki Hiramatsu, and Nate Lowman, along with special events like a Beni Rugs residency and garden dinners. Akerman also curated a Sardine program at Le Consortium Museum in Dijon, France, while Bradley shows new work at David Zwirner's London gallery.
