Yukako Yamashita will step down as director of Art Collaboration Kyoto (ACK) after leading the fair since 2022. The four-day event, which concluded at the Kyoto International Conference Center, featured 72 galleries from 19 countries and regions, with 29 Japan-based galleries hosting 30 international galleries in shared booths—its largest edition yet. Highlights included Annely Juda Fine Art's sale of three David Hockney works and Kurimanzutto selling 75 percent of its solo booth with artist WangShui. The fair also launched the Bangkok Collaborate Kyoto Fellowship, awarding WangShui and Takuro Tamayama a residency in Bangkok. ACK will return November 6–9, 2025.

Despite external chaos, Frieze Seoul soldiers on

The fourth edition of Frieze Seoul (3-6 September) took place alongside the Korea International Art Fair (Kiaf) at the Coex convention centre in Gangnam, amid economic concerns and a slower art market. Despite a modest 0.8% expected growth in South Korea's economy and fewer Western exhibitors, the fair saw strong institutional attendance, including curators from M+, the Museum of Modern Art, and the San Francisco Asian Art Museum, as well as celebrity visitors like BTS members and Blackpink's Lisa. Galleries reported cautious but steady sales, with a notable presence of Asian collectors, particularly from Japan, and a Stand Prize awarded to Kohesi Initiatives for a politically charged booth by Timoteus Anggawan Kusno.

Korean Cultural Center New York Presents the Major Exhibition "Lee Kang So: A Field of Becoming"

The Korean Cultural Center New York (KCCNY) presents the major exhibition "Lee Kang So: A Field of Becoming," on view from May 13 to June 20, 2026. The show features the work of pioneering Korean contemporary artist Lee Kang So (b. 1943), who since the 1970s has worked across photography, painting, sculpture, installation, and performance, resisting fixed forms to explore how art emerges through process, material, and context. The exhibition includes key works from his 1970s performances and installations, as well as later sculptures and paintings that foreground gravity, chance, and bodily gesture. Lee, who was active in New York in the 1980s and participated in MoMA PS1's Studio Artist Program, returns to the city with this exhibition at KCCNY's expanded venue.
