May Arts Calendar 2026

Detroit Mayor Mary Sheffield toured the newly renovated Museum of Contemporary Art Detroit (MOCAD) on April 23, 2026, accompanied by Co-Directors Marie Madison-Patton and Jova Lynne, and Board Chair Charles Boyd. The renovation includes the renamed Julia Reyes Taubman Building, new large windows, an HVAC system, and a bar area, with exhibitions featuring works by Olayami Dabls, Carole Harris, and Martha Mysko.

Pitt Meadows artist goes ‘Full Circle’ with new exhibit

An exhibition titled “Full Circle” opens May 2 at the Pitt Meadows Art Gallery, showcasing the work of local artist Liz Boulton. The show features her paintings in watercolour, acrylic, and mixed media, as well as hand-built art dolls, reflecting her decades-long artistic journey and her use of texture mediums, gels, and repurposed materials.

Missoula Art Museum: The Escapee (museum exhibition)

The Missoula Art Museum (MAM) in Missoula, Montana, recently exhibited a 1999 mixed media assemblage titled *The Escapee* by Stephen Glueckert. Glueckert, a sculptor and mixed media artist living in Missoula, holds a BFA from the University of Idaho and an MA in Art Education from Western Washington University. He is retired from his role as curator of the Missoula Art Museum and now works as a full-time artist. The photos of the exhibition were taken on May 15, 2026.

Metro Detroit artist set to bring mosaic art show to life

Mixed media artist Michelle Sider will showcase more than 50 colorful mosaic art pieces in her biggest solo exhibition, titled “Seeking Light,” opening Wednesday, May 20 at the University of Michigan-Dearborn’s Stamelos Gallery Center. The show highlights her work in glass mosaics and mixed media, and was previewed on the WDIV program 'Live in the D.'

Artists celebrate ‘overlooked beauty’ of Severnside town

An art exhibition titled 'overLOOKed' opens tomorrow at Luggs Farm in Sharpness, Gloucestershire, featuring works by eight artists inspired by the Sharpness Dock area. Curated by mixed media artist Lynda Knott, the show runs from Thursday until Bank Holiday Monday and is part of the Severn Vale Art Trail, supported by the Canal and River Trust. Artists include Angela Williams, Clare Stephens, Grant Sonnex, Lynda Knott, Nick Quirke, Martin Clarke, Shirley Sharp, and Zachary Knott, with a guided 'Mindful Photography' walk scheduled for May 2nd.

Emerging artists up for exhibition award

The 53rd Riversdale Mixed Media Arts Exhibition will take place in June at the Riversdale Community Centre in New Zealand, featuring a $1,000 emerging artist award for artists aged 13-25 from Southland, Queenstown-Lakes, and West Otago. The award received a record 44 entries in 2025, with judges Marcella and Jim Geddes selecting the top 10 artworks for display on opening day. Last year's winner, 18-year-old Finn Young from Southland Boys' High School, won with a woodcut printmaking piece depicting native birds and the extinction of the huia.
