Major international institutions have secured significant new acquisitions, ranging from intimate photographic archives to monumental silver reliefs. The Smithsonian’s Archives of American Art received over 400 stereoscopic slides by Ronnie Cutrone documenting Andy Warhol’s Factory, while the Germanisches Nationalmuseum acquired Luigi Valadier’s final silver masterpiece, 'Lamentation of Christ'. Additionally, the Christo and Jeanne-Claude Foundation donated 14 works to the City of Paris, including the early sculpture 'Package on a Luggage Rack' for the Musée d’Art Moderne de Paris.

‘Relentless’: National Gallery of Victoria exhibition celebrates motherhood

The National Gallery of Victoria has launched "Mother," an expansive exhibition featuring over 200 works that explore the complexities of motherhood. The Museo del Prado in Madrid has acquired two significant early pendant paintings by François Boucher, titled 'La Naissance et La Mort d'Adonis.' The works were purchased from a French private collection through the Madrid gallery Ana Chiclana, using funds from the bequest of the late department head Juan José Luna. The paintings have been restored and are currently on public display in the Goya's Majas room, awaiting the reopening of the museum's renovated 18th-century galleries.

The Ashiya City Museum of Art & History is launching a special exhibition titled "The Tree of the Collection, the 36th Spring: Focusing on New Acquisitions" to celebrate its 36th anniversary. The exhibition showcases approximately 100 works, including paintings, prints, sculptures, and video art, highlighting pieces acquired since the beginning of the Reiwa era (2019) alongside the museum's founding collection. Featured artists include modern Western-style painter Narashige Koide, members of the Gutai Art Association such as Atsuko Tanaka and Jiro Yoshihara, and contemporary figures like Keiji Uematsu and Yukinori Yamamura.

Knox items feature in refreshed art gallery

The National Art Gallery at the Manx Museum in Douglas has officially reopened following a year-long hiatus, debuting a refreshed layout and new acquisitions. The updated space features a dedicated section for the celebrated Art Nouveau designer Archibald Knox, highlighted by two newly donated pieces: a rare modernist inkwell and an opal pendant. These items were gifted to the national collection in memory of Martin Moore MBE, the former chairman of the trustees for Manx National Heritage.
