National Juneteenth Museum starts celebrations early with first Fort Worth exhibition

The National Juneteenth Museum, though not yet built in Fort Worth, is launching its first exhibition titled "Declarations of Freedom" on June 12, 2025. Curated by Lauren Cross and Christopher Blay, the show blends historical artifacts and photographs with contemporary works by North Texas artists including Vicki Meek, Spencer Evans, Sedrick Huckaby, and Letitia Huckaby. It precedes the museum's inaugural Freedom Vibes festival (June 19-22), featuring concerts, a block party, and a gospel program. State legislators have allocated $10 million toward the museum's $70 million goal, which CEO Jarred Howard frames as a nonpartisan American story.

East Dallas art exhibition is a celebration of Chicano identity and community

An exhibition titled “Chicano” at Art on Main gallery in East Dallas showcases the work of over 50 North Texas artists, featuring paintings, digital photography, and mixed media that explore Chicano identity, childhood memories, lowrider culture, immigration enforcement, and Indigenous heritage. Fort Worth African American Museum to officially open in June with joint exhibition

The Fort Worth African American Museum and Cultural Center will officially open on June 12 with its inaugural exhibition, "All ’N All: Artists Embracing Community," in partnership with Kinfolk House and the National Juneteenth Museum. The show features paintings, photographs, and mixed-media works by 11 North Texas artists exploring memory, culture, and the Black experience, and is part of the larger Freedom Vibes festival running June 11-20. The museum, which has been in development since 2020, secured its final funding from the Fort Worth City Council in January and purchased a 5,000-square-foot building on East Rosedale Street last summer.
