Stamford Museum celebrating 90 years with portrait exhibition

The Stamford Museum & Nature Center is marking its 90th anniversary with the exhibition 'Likeness & Legacy: Portraits from the Permanent Collection.' The show features paintings, prints, drawings, and sculptures, including a John Singer Sargent portrait once stolen by the Nazis and sculptural studies by Mount Rushmore sculptor Gutzon Borglum. It runs through May 25th.

Rangeley gallery to host opening for artist Gabrielle Castle

The Rangeley Friends of the Arts will host an Artist Reception for painter Gabrielle Castle at the Lakeside Contemporary Art Gallery in Rangeley, Maine, on Friday, June 13, from 5:30 to 7 p.m. The reception celebrates Castle's portrait exhibition titled “At a Glance,” which will be on view through July 8. The gallery also currently features a collaborative show by Sonja Johnson and Timothy Straub called “AGOG, simply AGOG!” through June 10.

The Citadelle Art Museum to exhibit portraits that explores memory, truth, human presence beginning Saturday

The Citadelle Art Museum in Canadian, Texas, will open a contemporary figurative portrait exhibition titled 'Human Resonance: Portraits with Presence' on February 14, 2026. The show, running through June 13, features internationally known painter David Kassan's portraits of Holocaust survivors, alongside works by artists Chelsie Murfee, Annie Murphy-Robinson, Shana Levenson, Barbara Hack, Karen Offutt, and Tanja Gant.

SMC Emeritus Gallery to Feature Barbara Gordon's Portrait Art

The Santa Monica College Emeritus Art Gallery is hosting a free online exhibition of painted portraits by artist Barbara Gordon, opening January 22, 2026. The exhibition will feature a Zoom Virtual Launch Event from 5 to 6:30 p.m., hosted by gallery curator Jesse Benson, who will discuss selected works with Gordon. The show highlights Gordon's portraits of women and children, reflecting her background in Women's Studies and her focus on emotional connection with her subjects.

Bedford workers honoured in new art exhibition

Artist David Lewry spent a year creating 36 colored pencil portraits of people working in Bedford, including a nurse, teacher, farm worker, dog groomer, funeral director, and hairdresser. The series, titled "Bedford at Work," will be exhibited at The Basement at Bunyan Gallery in Bedford from Tuesday to Saturday. Lewry, a 72-year-old former botanical artist trained at the Eden Project, was inspired during the pandemic by his wife Liz's work as a carer and wanted to honor ordinary workers in the community.

D'art Gallery in Denver will host "She Makes an Impression: Colorado Women Take a Look at Themselves," an invitational exhibition of self-portraits by over sixty Colorado women-identifying artists, from December 18, 2025, to January 11, 2026. Organized by the Colorado Women's Art Museum (CWAM), the show features works in diverse media including painting, printmaking, ceramics, fiber, mosaic, and photography, ranging from realistic depictions to abstract and non-representational pieces that explore personal experiences and emotions.
