Shepparton Art Museum (SAM) in Victoria, Australia, will host the exhibition "Facing Modernity: Degas to Picasso" from 23 May to 20 September 2026. The show features 37 paintings and sculptures from Auckland Art Gallery Toi o Tāmaki, including works by masters such as Paul Cézanne, Pablo Picasso, Henri Matisse, and Salvador Dalí. Many of these works are part of a major philanthropic gift from New York-based collectors Julian and Josie Robertson, donated to the Auckland gallery in 2023, and have never before been shown in Australia.
An exhibition titled "Jean F. Watson: An Artistic Legacy" at the City of Edinburgh showcases over 40 historical and contemporary Scottish artworks acquired through the Jean F. Watson Bequest Fund. Featured artists include Arthur Melville, JD Fergusson, Anne Redpath, Joan Eardley, Eduardo Paolozzi, Elizabeth Blackadder, Alison Watt, and Leena Nammari, among others. Highlights include Fergusson's "The Blue Hat, Closerie des Lilas," Blackadder's "Irises," and a pandemic-inspired installation by Virginia Hutchison. Scottsdale Public Art has opened "Desert Diamonds: Scottsdale’s 75th Anniversary" at the Civic Center Public Gallery inside Scottsdale Civic Center Library, running from April 10 through June 30, 2026. The exhibition features works selected from the city’s Fine Art Collection, including photography, painting, and sculpture that trace Scottsdale’s relationship with the arts from its earliest years, such as Mario Martinez’s "Yaqui Deer Dancer: Homage to the Ancestors" and George-Ann Tognoni’s "Helen Scott on Old Maude." The show marks the city’s diamond anniversary, with Scottsdale having been incorporated in 1951.
The Government of Yukon has added 11 new works to the Yukon Permanent Art Collection (YPAC), featuring artists Eugene Alfred, Misha Donohoe, Basia Hinton, Jane Isakson, Stephanie Luneta-Stevens, Jeneen Frei Njootli, Margret Njootli, Andy Pelletier, Dustin Sheldon, Maria Rose Sikyea, and Michelle Williams. Eight of these artists are represented in the collection for the first time. The pieces were selected from 134 submissions by 64 artists through an annual call for submissions process managed by the Yukon government and the Friends of Yukon Permanent Art Collection. An exhibition of the works is planned for fall 2026, and images are available on Yukon.ca.
Downtown Traverse City will host the 2026 Art Walk Series on two Friday evenings, May 29 and June 5, from 5-7 p.m. Organized by the Downtown Traverse City Association, the event pairs local artists with downtown merchants, turning shops and restaurants into temporary galleries. Art forms include painting, fiber, and wood, with live demonstrations, extended merchant hours, refreshments, and interactive activities. Additional programming includes hands-on activities at the J. Smith Walkway hosted by Crooked Tree Arts Center, live music at Horizon Books, and opportunities to view the city's permanent public art collection.
